Harvard Rothko Murals Back on Display

by / June 10, 2014 Uncategorized No Comments

Several artworks owned by Harvard are soon to be put on display again after some restoration work has been completed. Mark Rothko was commissioned to produce several paintings for the University at a time when he was building his reputation but these artworks were not displayed as carefully as they would today, given the artist’s importance.

Some small amendments have now been made to restore them to their former glory and the University aims to allow many more people to view these murals, by making the new display far more accessible.

Rothko’s fame has ensured that any of his past work that has fallen into minor disrepair is likely to be restored sooner rather than later, with some institutions keen to take advantage of owning art from Rothko, whilst others look to make as much money from selling them on as possible.
